Inspired by the true story, Dolphin Tale is all about courage, ingenuity, and not giving up. Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) is really a young boy who's being affected by school and doesn't have numerous friends other than his cousin Kyle (Austin Stowell). When Kyle, a star swimmer, joins the army to earn money for college and is called to active duty, it seems like Sawyer is destined to spend his summer alone tinkering within the garage and attending summer school. Sawyer stumbles upon a dolphin that's been severely injured, becomes interested in dolphins, and it is suddenly intellectually engaged like never before. Notwithstanding his shyness, he forms a friendship with marine rescue doctor Clay (Harry Connick Jr.) with his fantastic daughter Hazel (Cozi Zuehlsdorff) and, more importantly, a particular and intensely powerful bond using the rescued dolphin, who's dubbed Winter. Since the newly formed team struggles to avoid wasting Winter's life and make certain her continued safety, financial concerns, a major accident that leaves Kyle crippled for life, as well as a hurricane all apparently join forces against them. In the end, it can be Sawyer's determination, coupled using a little bit of luck along with a lots of ingenuity from an army doctor (Morgan Freeman) who specializes in prosthetics, that can help make each member of the team, including Kyle and Winter, whole again. The talented cast does an excellent job of making completely believable characters, but Gamble, Zuehlsdorff, Connick, Freeman, Stowell, and obviously Winter, who plays herself, all deserve special mention. Even though the story of the injured animal rescued and rehabilitated has certainly been told before, this film is emotionally powerful and can absolutely captivate children and adults alike. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi
In an inspiring story from the bond between animals and humans, a boy named Sawyer discovers an injured dolphin, who's brought to some marine hospital and named Winter. Unfortunately, her injuries cost Winter her tail, without which she may well not survive. But with Sawyer's devotion, a marine biologist's (Harry Connick Jr.) along with the brilliance of an prosthetist (Morgan Freeman) arrested for creating a brand new tail, Winter may receive a second chance at life.
